The effects of the coronavirus pandemic are also evident in the ranking of the 20-leading medium-sized IT consulting companies in Germany. On average, IT companies grew by 4.7% in 2020 (2019: 8.7%) and generated total revenue of €3.6 billion. Demand for IT services from the industrial and financial services sectors remained almost constant compared to 2019. On the other hand, demand from the retail and public sectors has increased rapidly, as many customers have significantly increased their IT budgets. One of the reasons for this is the jolt of digitisation that accompanied the onset of the pandemic. Overall, however, demand for IT services in 2020 was below the previous year's level.
With sales of EUR 45.6 million in Germany in the 2020 financial year, on total sales of EUR 105.4 million (2019: EUR 92.3 million), BE-terna can again impress with strong organic growth of 14.2%. Over the past year, the BE-terna family has continued to develop strategically and has grown by almost 100 employees through acquisitions in Northern Europe (2020: 819; 2019: 734). With the acquisition of Pipol A/S (Denmark), BE-terna now has the largest partner network in the Microsoft 365 Dynamics world and is one of the leading global providers for international Microsoft 365 Dynamics projects. More than 70 partners and therefore over 5000 Microsoft 365 Dynamics experts are members of this exclusive and worldwide partner network. At the same time, BE-terna took its first steps into the Scandinavian market with the acquisition of Microsoft Dynamics Finance & Supply Chain specialists Tydab AB in Sweden.
We are very pleased that, despite the fundamental changes of the last year, we have once again significantly improved our position among the leading consulting and systems integration companies and have grown above the industry average. We still see a lot of potential in our markets and will continue to expand BE-terna's market position in Germany and Europe through both organic and inorganic growth. Our holistic range of solutions and our consulting expertise in our target industries make us a sought-after and reliable partner for our customers in the implementation of digitisation strategies,
says Bernhard Lang, CEO of BE-terna.
Tobias Ganowski, analyst at Lünendonk & Hossenfelder GmbH, outlines a clear trend line for the top topics in 2021: "For the current year, IT consultancies anticipate particularly high demand around cloud transformation and the management of hybrid IT landscapes.” In addition, IT service providers expect increased demand around the topics of customer experience and data analytics.
On the one hand, IT is to be brought to a new technological level, which promises low costs, easier handling and a higher degree of automation. On the other hand, new IT-based products are to be developed and digital business models established. The value-added contribution of IT in companies will therefore continue to increase,
explains Tobias Ganowski.
This development is also noticeable at BE-terna this year. The aforementioned trend topics for 2021 are central keywords for BE-terna in its collaboration with customers.
Gerald Pichler, COO of BE-terna says:
Our customers are already strengthening their competitive edge today by bringing these trends to life with our industry and technology experts as part of our industry-specific cloud solutions. The spectrum of solutions ranges from identifying potential in the company with quick-to-use, intuitive analytics and dashboards to industry-specific machine learning applications, for example, to achieve the permanently optimal balance between inventory and delivery reliability.
