Mosdorfer: Manufacturer for power transmission technology implements Dynamics 365

5 min read Apr 28, 2025

When Mosdorfer GmbH set out to modernize its ERP system, one thing was clear: the existing Microsoft Navision 2009 system could no longer keep pace with the complexity of processes or the company’s growth ambitions. More than a technical upgrade was needed—a future-proof, cloud-based solution was required, one that supports international roll-outs and provides new digital opportunities. In partnership with BE-terna, Mosdorfer implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management. The journey was challenging—but marked by openness, expertise, and a commitment to learning at every step. Today, the system runs reliably, managing complex manufacturing processes with ease—and Mosdorfer is ready for what comes next.

Energize the world

Based in Weiz, Austria, Mosdorfer GmbH is part of the Knill Group and has been developing and manufacturing fittings for high-voltage overhead lines up to 1,200 kV for decades. These critical components connect pylons, insulators, and conductors, playing a key role in power transmission. With a strong network of production and sales locations across Europe and Asia, and a global presence, Mosdorfer supports energy providers worldwide in ensuring safe and reliable electricity transmission.

From NAV to Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management

The starting point was clear: the NAV system from 2009 was outdated. An upgrade would have required the same effort as a complete reimplementation—but offered limited potential. Furthermore, NAV’s structure and functionality could not support Mosdorfer’s international growth plans or its complex manufacturing environment. While Business Central was considered, it soon became apparent that it lacked scalability and functionality for Mosdorfer’s needs.

The decision was made in favor of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management—a cloud-native solution designed to handle larger process landscapes and support future international roll-outs.

Thinking big: A strategic project decision

After selecting the ERP system, Mosdorfer searched for the right implementation partner. BE-terna stood out with its available resources, training concept, and extensive industry expertise. The “train-the-trainer” model and experience with complex industrial processes were key factors in the selection process.

A deep-dive ERP project

From day one, it was clear that Mosdorfer’s requirements called for more than a standard solution. The project team followed a structured approach, starting with an intensive preparation phase and detailed workshops to define precise requirements. A core focus was managing bundles—from quotation to invoicing—a process that required tailored solutions beyond standard system capabilities.

Strong expertise and partnership at eye level

The collaboration between Mosdorfer’s key users and the BE-terna consulting team was excellent from the start. Deep expertise, technical understanding, and the ability to quickly grasp processes were critical to the project’s success. The “train-the-trainer” approach also proved effective, enabling targeted knowledge transfer within the company.

„The workshops were of a very high professional standard. The collaboration with the consulting team was consistently positive.“

– Werner Schrattner, ERP Project Manager, Mosdorfer GmbH

Go-live: A shared success

Preparation for go-live—and the months that followed—was crucial, especially with ongoing production processes still running in the legacy system. This required managing production planning and material procurement in two systems simultaneously. The outcome speaks for itself: on just the second day after go-live, the first delivery was successfully processed through Dynamics 365. Thanks to thorough preparation, everything ran smoothly—a strong signal for the organization.

„We were productive from day one—the first success came on the second day. That was a real boost for the team.“

– Werner Schrattner

Results that matter

Since go-live, Mosdorfer has been working reliably with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management. Most discrete manufacturing processes are fully mapped, daily operations run smoothly, and the company is increasingly able to implement adjustments independently. Reporting capabilities are also being expanded, with Power BI serving as the central platform for data-driven decision-making.

Highlights at a glance:

  • Reliable management of complex manufacturing processes
  • Stable ERP platform in the Microsoft Cloud
  • Development of internal expertise and knowledge transfer
  • Foundation for future international roll-outs

Ready for the next steps

With the new system proving itself in daily operations, Mosdorfer is now focused on leveraging its full potential. New functionalities are being explored, and the focus is on continuous development. The next roll-out is already planned for Lorünser—another Austrian subsidiary of the Knill Group with production in Slovakia. Further expansions in India and the UK are also on the horizon. Mosdorfer is consistently driving the expansion of the Dynamics 365 platform across the group.

„Dynamics gives us stability today—and many new opportunities tomorrow. Now it’s about making the most of them, step by step.“

– Werner Schrattner

For Mosdorfer, choosing Microsoft Dynamics 365 was more than a technology shift—it was the starting point for an ERP future that grows with the company. In close collaboration with BE-terna, a system was created that delivers productivity today and can scale globally tomorrow.
