With the opening of the state-of-the-art corrugated cardboard production hall in Waldneukirchen, Upper Austria, Dinkhauser Kartonagen has made a significant step toward in-house production and increasing efficiency. Thanks to the long-standing partnership with BE-terna, the new production facility was seamlessly integrated into the existing Infor M3 ERP system. This expansion has enabled Dinkhauser to reduce its reliance on external suppliers, minimize administrative workload, and significantly optimize production processes.

Founded in 1848, Dinkhauser Kartonagen is a traditional company specializing in high-quality packaging and display solutions made from corrugated and solid board. The production facility in Waldneukirchen, operated by W-Well GmbH and established in 2024, is equipped with the latest generation of corrugated board production technology. Featuring cutting-edge technology, reduced energy consumption, and optimized logistics, this location is one of the most advanced in Europe.

In-house production for greater flexibility and independence

Before the new production hall became operational, the group was dependent on purchasing corrugated board. Now, with in-house production by W-Well, the group aims to achieve greater flexibility and independence. The biggest challenge was to align the complex production processes with the administrative operations of the various group companies – all within the existing ERP system.

Efficient process control with Infor M3

Production begins with the electronic transmission of orders, which are directly recorded in the ERP system. Automated interfaces ensure that product master data and article structures are seamlessly integrated into the system, allowing orders to be immediately processed as jobs. These jobs are then converted into production orders that coordinate the various work steps.

The specialized planning tool communicates continuously with the corrugated board machine to efficiently manage the production process. As soon as the corrugated sheets are produced, the system automatically reports the finished pallets or stacks to the ERP system, where inventory is updated in real-time. Each pallet receives an SSCC number, ensuring full traceability.

The pallets are transported to the high-bay warehouse via automated conveyor technology, with their exact location tracked in the ERP system and inventory continuously monitored. The entire delivery process, including invoicing, is also fully managed through the central ERP system, which integrates all logistical processes.

Focus on standard solutions: Fast, cost-efficient, and future-proof

For years, the group has pursued a strategy of relying on standard solutions for as many business processes as possible. Even in the new corrugated board production facility, they deliberately avoided complex custom programming. This approach enabled faster and more cost-efficient implementation while creating a future-proof, low-maintenance IT landscape. Adjustments can be made easily without disrupting operations.

„Our goal has always been to stick to the standard as much as possible to avoid long-term issues with maintaining and adapting custom programming.“

– Martin Lechthaler, COO of W-Well.

Technical expertise and support from BE-terna

The long-standing partnership between Dinkhauser and BE-terna is built on trust in BE-terna's expertise and their ability to efficiently integrate complex processes. One of the key reasons for choosing BE-terna as a partner was their extensive experience with the Infor M3 ERP system. BE-terna helped Dinkhauser strike the right balance: Standard processes in the ERP system were utilized to reduce administrative workload, while also addressing the unique requirements of corrugated board production.

„ The expertise and support from BE-terna were crucial for the successful launch of our new production line in Upper Austria.“

– Martin Lechthaler.

Results achieved

  • Seamless integration: Successful connection of the Dr. Corr production software, WWE data exchange, and BMD financial accounting software to the existing Infor M3 ERP system.

  • Reduced administrative workload: Standardized processes have significantly reduced administrative efforts.
  • Long-term partnership: Strengthened relationship through regular meetings and close collaboration on new projects.

The decision to use standard solutions and the continued partnership with BE-terna lay the foundation for future success and flexible adaptation to new requirements.

Future projects and collaboration

D Dinkhauser Kartonagen and BE-terna will continue to work closely together in the future. Initial ideas for new projects have already been presented, including potential expansions in internal maintenance and service processes.
